about
On ‘Drop Gear' Huntly double down on their “doof you can cry to” manifesto, marrying intimate songwriting with forward-thinking dance music. Working between the margins of Pop, R&B, Techno and Drum & Bass, ‘Drop Gear’ is a song about sexual tension, restlessness and alienation. The narrative is replicated in slow-attack swelling synths, rising percussion, layered vocal samples - creating a flow of rising and releasing that tension.
Drop Gear is out now via Barely Dressed Records.
lyrics
Sliding down between your loves
I’ll admit I’m afraid
Of what’s gonna come
So let’s drive it down
Bury this map of me
And I’ll ride ahead
And try out apathy
But I just can’t quit it
I feel illegitimate
How I wanted to fall
Feel you around me
I’d sweat for you to let me
Inside and underneath
I’d worship every piece
So fuck this friendship,
I’ll sing it here
Sink into silence,
Drop it down a gear, god
I’m gonna drop it down
Hold it all,
Press it down between
‘Til it is filling up every aching part of me
So can I call your loved ones
Say you won’t come back the same
Cos if you’d let me change you
I’ll replace you right out of their games
But I just can’t quit it
I feel illegitimate
How I wanted to fall
Feel you around me
I’d sweat for you to let me
Inside and underneath
I’d worship every piece
So fuck this friendship,
I’ll sing it here
Sink into silence,
Drop it down a gear, god
I’m gonna drop it down
And if I fall
Any harder
I’ll have nothing left of me
When you disappear
I can feel ya
Sucking the life out of me
And I’ll let you take it
Yeah I’ll let you take it
Yeah I’ll let you take it
Yeah I’ll let you take it
But I just can’t quit it
I feel illegitimate
How I wanted to fall
Feel you around me
I’d sweat for you to let me
Inside and underneath
I’d worship every piece
So fuck this friendship,
I’ll sing it here
Sink into silence,
Drop it down a gear, god
